Increase Traffic and Generate Revenue

Increasing website traffic and generating revenue must be the two main goals of any self-respecting webmaster (that's not too big on philanthropy ;-))! Whether the 'revenue' you are going to create is from product / service sales or whether its commission from an affiliate network is largely irrelevant, the same basic principles apply in both cases.

In terms of getting traffic to your website two very effective methods of doing this are search engine optimization (i.e. SEO) and also 'buying traffic'. SEO is basically making sure that your website looks great for all your target keywords and phrases from the search engine's point of view - this is very different to making the website look great from a human's point of view! Buying traffic is where you part with money in exchange a specified volume of visitors / page impressions.

With respect to generating revenue, an easy and efficient way of doing this is to use the Google AdSense program where contextually relevant adverts are inserted into your site, each time an ad is clicked you get a portion of the revenue that Google charges the advertiser.
